Child Soldier Relief

After communicating with the Manager for Youth Programs at War Child Canada about lesson plans relating to child soldier issues, I thought it might be useful to point out where I have linked them on this site - under the For Children of War tab.

War Child Canada has an entire series of lesson plans for educators – 21 to be exact - located at on their website called getloud.ca at this link.  They cover areas such as “War Affected Children” and “Child Soldiers”.

For example, the “War Affected Children” plan:

Starting in small groups, students will create a potentially wall-sized web of effects of war on children including looking at direct and indirect effects as well as interconnections.

For the “Child Soldiers” plan:

This activity uses role-play to help students understand the varied reasons why children end up being soldiers in the world’s wars.

In addition, the website has divided topics into issue areas to provide background information for teachers, ranging from Child Soldiers to Conflict Diamonds to the Convention on the Rights of the Child at this link here.
